Dearest Mom,
I received your letter and was so glad to get. There isn't a thing to do around here but lay around and I sure am getting tired of it. I got my clothes today-uniform and all. Not blue-there are only a few fellows on the post that have blue ones. But I like mine just as well. I got my horn today it is swell. (My dad was a musician in the Army Band) I am going to play E flat bass instead of B flat. I don't know a thing about it, but the bandmaster said one of the fellows would teach me how to play it.
I got Georgia's (my mom, he has not met her in person yet they are pen pals.) letter, thanks mom for sending it.
I have seen George Andrews every day, and dad saw him once too. Mr. Andrews, Beaty, Peggy, and kids, came down to see George (dad's brother) Sunday. But I was in Olympia at the time so I missed them. I can take up violin and I intend to do so. I also will get a chance to type once in a while in the office.
I am sure glad that you got your silverware, (you deserved it). I have been feeling swell, the food is good and everything is all right except--I get a little homesick once in a while. Hope you are feeling all right. Tell Homer and Aunt Anna hello for me.
Will close with love to all
Rex. XXXXX
Dad, George, and I will be home Saturday.
Side Note: Dad was the youngest of four boys, the oldest was Frank, then the twins George and Ben and then Dad.
