1942

                                  Mom, Dad, and Me

There is a gap between the letters he sent home in June 1941 and May 1942.  During that time  on Aug. 30, 1941 Rex and Georgia were married in Everett, Wa.  They started their married life at Fort Lewis, Wa.  where Georgia worked as a maid.  That is where they were when Pearl Harbor was attacked, Dec. 7, 1941.  Rex left immediately for Fort Ord, California,  Georgia joined Pearl  and Glen  (her sister and brother-in-law) and her parents in Orose, California.  Her brother Dean and his wife Lyla lived in Hanford, near by.  On Sept. 3, 1941 Rex left for Camp Picket and from there to Fort Dix, New Jersey.  He was sent from there to Europe into battle.  He was in the Third Division Band but soon found himself with a bazooka instead of a tuba.
