My dad was the forth son of George Joseph Woltring and Mable Lena Gray Woltring. His father was born in 1880 at home, on a farm outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His mother was born Nov. 1st 1886 in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Her genealogy has been traced back to the original patentees of New York and beyond that to Sweden. His genealogy goes back to Germany.
Mable attended school as a child in Missouri and became friends with Hattie Barton, a friendship that lasted as long as they lived. Mable married George and moved to Washington state where they raised their four sons. Rex was born in the town of Richmond Beach, Washington, Nov. 7, 1919. Hattie remained in Missouri, and married a man named George Washington Scales, they had six children in Missouri, one died young. Before Georgia was born they moved to Gridley, Kansas where my mother was born, June 15, 1920.
The two mothers wrote often to each other and the two youngest grew into teenagers. When Rex was fifteen and Georgia was fourteen they became pen-pals.
After Rex graduated from high school he enlisted into the army. He was stationed at Fort Lewis which was 79 miles from his home in Marysville.
