A tired G. I. |
Fort Lewis, Wa.
May 21, 1939
Dear Mom, Dad and All,
I made it back home fine and dandy without getting wet a bit, although I was beginning to think that I would get wet. I was here at the Fort at 15 to 8 so you can see that I had good luck. About 5 minutes after George (his brother) left me a fellow in a 36 V8 who was going to Seattle picked me up. Between Seattle and Everett about 6:15 it rained so hard that everybody had to turn there lights on to see. I don't think that I've ever seen it rain so hard. He could hardly see out the windshield and the wiper was working real well to. He left me off south of Seattle and it was raining pretty hard then. I jumped out of his car stuck my thumb out and a car stopped and I jumped right in. I don't think it was more than 5 seconds from one car to the other. This car was a 1939 Plymouth 4 door sedan. There was 3 fellows from New York in it seeing the country. They were not more than 21 years old. Their folks must of had plenty of money because they were talking about writing home for more money. They had four or five swell suits in the car. They took me right up to the Fort. They went about 75 all the way.
I am pretty sure that I will be home Sat. so I will see you then.
With Love
Rex xxx
PS I am writing this letter Sunday night after I got back here it is now 9 o'clock.
